Pacuare River Ecological Blue Flag Program

The Pacuare River is one of Costa Rica’s natural jewels, unique in the country. It is globally recognized as one of the ten best rafting rivers in the world, fundamentally for the quality of its waters and its incomparable surrounding scenery.

In terms of scenery, it is a paradise, and its ecosystem is so important that Aventuras Naturales has been inspired to take concrete steps in leading the Ecological Blue Flag Program for River Watersheds, making this a pioneer project on a global level!

We are working to get the Costa Rican government water institute, AyA, to award the Pacuare River a Blue Flag for its clean water and environment. The AyA has tested water samples from the Pacuare river and found them to be of excellent  quality . In accordance with the Regulations to Evaluate and Classify the  quality of water this  river was classified as  Class 1 , Blue Color Code  and without pollution . We are also working with local communities to ensure that they protect the river, another requirement of the Blue Flag Program.
