Pacuare Lodge – Corcovado National Park

Dense tropical rainforests, sunsets to die for, and a peek at an enchanted isle beckon you on this off-the-beaten-path adventure…

Day 1:
Airport meet & greet by our representative and transfer to your city hotel.

Overnight at the Real Inter Continental or similar.


Day 2: Air Transfer to Osa Peninsula
After breakfast you will be picked-up and taken to the SANSA terminal nearby for flight to the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The 45-minute flight traverses towering mountain passes layered with lush tropical forests and cascading waterfalls, before descending to the frontier town of  Palmar Sur. Guests will then be transported to Drake Bay by motorboat along the mangrove-lined Sierpe River to Casa Corcovado Lodge. The Lodge is set in a 170 acre private reserve bordering Corcovado National Park and offers accommodations constructed with the highest concern for conservation in harmony with the landscape and the environment. Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge provides the ideal base for your in-depth rainforest experience.

Day 3: Hiking in Corcovado National Park
After a delicious breakfast your adventure begins. Starting out from the lodge with your naturalist guide you journey into Corcovado National Park. The cool morning hours offer a good opportunity to spot wildlife and to observe some of the incredible variety of birds that abound in the park. The animal life in this section of the National Park is quite vibrant, with frequent sighting of monkeys, coatimundis, squirrels, spiders, macaws, bats, leaf cutting ants, and other animal species. The hike includes lunch, drinks and a visit to a spectacular secluded beach.

Day 4: Caño Island Tour
Caño Island is located 12 miles west of Drake Bay, in an area considered by many to offer some of the best diving in the world. During your visit to mysterious Caño Island you will have a chance to visit actual pre-Colombian burial grounds and hike through the island's luxuriant undergrowth. For those who want to explore the coral reefs around the Island it’s a great opportunity to see a fantastic number of fish, rays and sometimes turtles. This is one of the best dive spots in Costa Rica.

Day 5: Flight to San Jose and Transfer to Pacuare Lodge
This morning you leave the lodge by boat and head back up the lush Sierpe River to the town of Palmar Sur where you will take a plane back to San José. At the airport you will be picked up and transferred towards the Caribbean side of the country. The bus trip ends in Santa Marta, where you board a four-wheel-drive vehicle for the remaining six-kilometer gravel road journey to the banks of the Pacuare River. There you will cross the river on a hanging gondola, then walk the remaining 300 yards to the Pacuare Lodge. After a delicious lunch you can relax in your bungalow or take part in our waterfall hike. In the late afternoon you can join fellow travelers in our expansive main lodge before enjoying a three-course candlelight meal.Overnight at the Pacuare Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 6:In the morning, and after a restful night’s sleep, you will head over to the main lodge for a delicious breakfast of home-made bread, tropical fruits, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, cereal and juice and coffee.

The lodge employs a resident naturalist guide who will provide you with unique insights into the plant and animal world. Choose from exciting optional tours (not included in the price) that include guided hikes through an emerald rainforest, the Cabecar Indian tour - where visitors may participate in a cultural exchange with a shaman and our Adventure Canopy Tour –where visitors glide amid a tropical rainforest canopy. Overnight at the Pacuare Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 7: In the morning you will depart by raft for a fun-filled day of white water rating excitement (approximately 3½ hours over class III-IV rapids), including a delicious picnic lunch along the river. At our river take-out you will have a chance to change at our private facilities before being transferred by private minibus back to your hotel in San José. Arrival back in San Jose between 5:30-6:30 pm.

Day 8: Pick up and transfer to the Juan Santamaría International Airport for your departure home (B)
