Day 2: Tortuguero National Park.
Pick-up at your San Jose hotel and transfer through lush Braulio Carrillo National Park down to the lowlands of Limon (Costa Rica’s main Caribbean port). Along the way you will pass through tropical rainforests, cloud forests and lowland tropical rainforests before arriving at Matina docks you will board a small launch for a two hour cruise amid verdant canals to the Pachira Lodge or similar.
Set on a sand bar between the Tortuguero Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, the Pachira Lodge offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a front-seat view of the area’s varied wildlife. Your afternoon can be spent resting, swimming in the large pool or soaking in the Jacuzzi. You may also explore many jungle trails or take a short boat ride to the beach and observe the incredible nesting of the giant Green Turtles (between July and October).
Day 3: Tortuguero Canals
Get up early for a guided boat tour of the Tortuguero Canals where Orchids, monkeys, birds, crocodiles and toucans are just a sample of the creatures encountered along the jungle waterways. After this fascinating excursion you will have a chance to relax or take a boat ride across the lagoon to the picturesque town of Tortuguero.
Day 4: Ground transportation to Pacuare Lodge
After breakfast you will take the boat back to the docks and board the bus for your transfer to the Pacuare Lodge. You will arrive at the Pacuare Lodge around noon after crossing over the Pacuare River in a gondola and a short 300 meter walk. After a delicious lunch you can relax in your bungalow or take part in our waterfall hike. In the late afternoon you can join fellow travelers in our expansive main lodge before enjoying a three-course candlelight meal. Overnight at Pacuare Lodge.
Day 5: Optional Tour at Pacuare Lodge
You’ll wake up to bird song and the soothing sound of the river nearby. Then head over to the main lodge for a delicious breakfast of home-made bread, tropical fruits, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, cereal and juice and coffee.
The lodge employs a resident naturalist guide who will provide you with unique insights into the plant and animal world. Choose from exciting optional tours (not included in the price) that include guided hikes through an emerald rainforest, the Cabecar Indian tour - where visitors may participate in a cultural exchange with a shaman and our Adventure Canopy Tour –where visitors glide amid a tropical rainforest canopy. Day 6: Pacuare River Rafting
Between 9:00-10:00 am. you will depart by raft for an even more fun-filled day of white water rating excitement (approximately 3½ hours over class III-IV rapids), including a delicious picnic lunch along the river. At our river take-out you will have a chance to change at our private facilities before being transferred to the Caribbean coastal town of Puerto Viejo. With its laid back attitude and Caribbean life style, Puerto Viejo offers you the ideal location for fun in the sun. Overnight at Shawanda Hotel or similar.
Day 7: Day to enjoy at your leisure. Biking, visiting a wildlife refuge, kayaking or snorkelling are just a few of the activities you can enjoy in Puerto Viejo and surrounding areas.

Day 9: Pick up and transfer to the Juan Santamaría International Airport for your departure home (B)
